NOVEMBER 2012

On the 13th of each month, I will be inviting a Guest to
SHOWCASE at The Shaque!
There will be a series of 13 questions that they will answer
in hopes to make new connections
across Cyber Space and Blog Land
as well as teach you a few fun facts about themselves
that you may not know.

For today's Guest, I am honored to have the
super fun and super talented
Jenn Jackson

Please join me in Welcoming Jenn and leaving her some love!!!

1.What’s your name?
Jenn Jackson

2. What is the name and link of your blog?  How long have you been blogging?

Scrap Happens Embellish It
I starting blogging in October of 2010.
I was pretty scared at first and didn't post much,
but now I have my personal blog
and own 4 challenge blogs :)

 3.  What is your favorite craft to work with (type, technique, style)?
I  I don't really have a favorite craft.
I am kinda all over the place when it
comes to crafting. I do seem to have a lot of paper though :)

4. Do you have other hobbies?
I love to read and I sew on occasion...when time permits :)

5. How did you get started in the Craft World?
I have always dabbled in one type of craft or another, but started paper crafting about 6 years ago. A friend had given me an empty scrapbook and a bunch of papers as a baby shower gift when i was pregnant with my son. It sat in the closet for 2 years and one day I decided to get it out and play around. I was instantly hooked.

6. Where are you from?
Born in Alaska, but grew up in Kansas.
I have lived in Saint Louis, MO for the last 8 years.

7. If you could give a tip to a new crafter/blogger, what would it be?
Don't worry about what everyone else thinks of your crafting. Your opinion is the only one that matters.

8. Name some things that you have learned this year, that you are glad  you  learned?
I have learned to craft outside of my box and try new things that I never would have tried had I not been pushed.

9. Do you have anything personal you wish to share with the readers?
I love vampires, the paranormal and reality TV :)

10. What are your future ambitions?
I would love to open a Coffee Bar/Scrapbook Shop, but first I have to win the lottery.

11. What challenges have you faced, but conquered in crafting?</ span>
I was so scared to work with digital images. Now they are pretty much the only "stamp" I use.

12.  When told you would be interviewed for this Guest Post, what
question were you hoping to be asked?

What is your favorite crafting tool?

13.  What answer would you give to the unasked question?
I love my Cricut and wish I had time to use it more!

November 100 Cart Hop

 Welcome to
the
My Cricut Craft Room
100 Cartridge
Blog Hop
November 3rd & 4th

If you are arriving from Jenn Lorist's 's Blog, then you are on the right track.
If you need to start from the beginning, please head over to
My Cricut Craft Room.

This month we got to choose 4 Cricut Cartridges that we wanted
to use on our projects again.
I chose to use:
Elmo's Party,
Over The Hill,
Pretty Pennants,
and Cricut Classic Font.

I decided to do a fun Christmas Layout
now that Halloween is over.
I started with a white base
and began making my cuts.
The pennant banner  layers were cut
from Pretty Pennants at 3" from Cream and Green
Card Stock.

The word JOY was cut from Cricut Classic Font
at 1 1/2" from Green and Red Card Stock.
I added 3 rhinestones to each letter.
The photo mats were cut using my trimmer.

The small music notes were cut from
Elmo's Party at 3/4" from black and cream card stock.
The small green envelope, holding the snowman tag,
was cut from Over The Hill at 3" from a Green Card Stock.

The snowman was inked with Ranger Embossing ink
then heat embossed using Green Powder.
The image and sentiment stamp is a Unity Stamp Itty Bitty
by Artist Susan Weckesser
(Love <3 Her)

The small snowflake charm is one
of many I have purchased from
Pamela Horton - she is my Go To Gal
to get all my Charm Fixes (LOL)
(sorry for the slight glare in the center...the chipboard pieces are
a little glossy and the flash must have hit it just right)

I added a few chipboard Christmas candies, holly, and candy canes
to add a little extra Holiday Cheer.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Scrapbook Friday - World Teacher's Day

Welcome to

Today is my day to be a featured
Design Team Member
at
My Cricut Craft Room

The theme of our layouts
had to relate to
World Teacher's Day.

This gave me a wonderful opportunity
to make a layout
for Lance Jr.'s Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Campbell.

Lance was excited over the summer to go to school,
but as the first day drew near, he began to feel
a little nervous and stated he "didn't want to go".

After the first day of school, seeing his classroom,
meeting his teacher, and seeing all
of the other young children,
he hasn't looked back again.

Each day he comes home to tell a story of what
fun Mrs. Campbell had planned for them today
and for the rest of the week!

She has truly turned his nervousness into anticipation
to return each and every day!

My layout was created on an 8 1/2x11 piece
of Recollections Card Stock using a
wonderful sketch by Becky Fleck, from Page Maps 2.

I also used some papers from the $1 bins at
Target along with K & Company cardstock - Lion Sleeps.
The other papers were all scraps
The frame around my sons picture,
was cut from Graphically  Speaking at 5 1/2".

The fun title word SCHOOL was also cut from Graphically  Speaking, but
at 1" and on blue card stock.

I cut several apples from Doodlecharms at various
sizes (1", 1.25, 1.5", 1.75", and 2").  However
I only used 3 out of the 5 that were cut.
 The report card stamp
is from a Unity Stamp Co. Set called smarty pants
and
I added some stickers by Authentique
The other stickers
in the title are from the same $1 set
I purchased at Target.
A little Tim Holtz Vintage Photo around the edges
 to finish it all off.

Thank you for stopping in
today and be

Scrapbook Friday - Wild About U

Scrapbook Friday - September 14, 2012

~4 or more Pictures on a Layout~

Hello Crafty Blends.
I am exited to share my
fun Layout with you today.

For our DT projects today at
 My Cricut Craft Room,
 we were to create
a Scrapbook Layout that
had 4 or more pictures on it.

I love snapping random pics
as often as possible around the house.
But, really enjoy when the younger kids
cuddle by me and are happy to be close to each other.
With them being 2, 4, and 5 years old, it is important
to grab the camera when this happens since
it is a rare occasion.
LOL!

I used the new Create A Critter 2
Cartridge for all the fun cuts
you see on the layout.

The first set of pictures that I printed didn't suit
my fancy with the idea I had for colors on my layout.
And if you know me, you know I LOVE COLOR!
So I softened the colors up
by changing the hue and saturation amounts.
I then fussy cut around 4 out of the 5 pics.

I used a single piece of white card stock
and a single piece of black card stock
for all of my Cricut cuts.  I then
used lots of stamp pads
and mediums to adjust them
to my liking.

The Title was cut at 4" on both layers.  I then stamped
the white layer with TH Antique Linen first.  I layered a portion with
Studio G pink and another with Studio G Teal .

When adhering all of my cuts together (the black and white layers),
I decided to offset the black to create a
fun shadow.  This is just one of the many
techniques I have learned from
watching Erica's Room on Ustream this year.
She is full of crafty fun tips
to make crafting more fun and efficient.

My next cut was for the cute Gate.  I cut
this at 4" then went over
the top white layer with TH Vintage Photo.
When the ink dried, I applied a thin coat of Distress Crackle Paint
in Clear Rock Candy and allowed it to dry.
(sorry about the close up pic being blurry.  I think the kids
played with the settings on my camera...LOL)

Other cuts I made from the Create A Critter 2 Cartridge
were
The Hearts (cut at 2") seen near some pics
and
The Bursts (cut at 2") seen along the length of the vine.
I used pink and green ink to bring together the entire color
palette from the photos and background designs.

To create the background, I started with a piece of
Desert Card Stock and placed an inqueboard
flower and a vine on top of it.  I started by misting with
Green Olive Smooch Spritz over the vine.
I then misted over the flower with several colors, but mostly
with the Pralines and Cream Smooch Spritz.
This created a masked design and
inked my inqueboard at the same time.
Multi-Tasking!
I simply took my Whisper Stroke Markers
and made some doodles for
highlight.
I decided to try a technique with bubble wrap
that I had seen in several places around the web.
I applied the TH Black  Soot to the wrap,
then "slapped" it down to create the
fun dots behind the large photo.
I matted the larger photo
on a piece of Little Miss by Bo Bunny.
I added a few rhinestones, also from the Bo Bunny Little Miss collection,
to the bursts along the vine.
For the finale',  some miniature roses to create a garden and
complete the entire layout.

Now, be sure to head over to
see what the talented Design Team Members have created
for their projects today

"Jen's Sunshine" Blog Hop

Paper Makeup Stamps
& Party Time Tuesdays Challenge Blog
proudly presents
"Jen's Sunshine" Blog Hop
Photobucket

This hop will remain open till Tuesday Sept.4th
Winners announced Sept. 7th

Today we take time to honor our friend and
fellow crafter Jen Scull.
If you are here hopping with us, then I am sure you know
Jen is battling breast cancer.
She has been fighting this nasty disease since February.
On behalf of Jen, we thank you for being here.

For this hop, my wonderful Leader Julie K of 3 Girl JAM,
purchased the adorable
images called
Jen's Sunshine Digi Stamps
from Paper Makeup Stamps
so I could participate as a Hop Stop.

Jennifer Scull and I met
through blogging after the tragic shootings that took place
in Chardon, OH.   It was an instant connection, and
I love visiting her and adore when she visits me.
She is such a sweet soul and a true inspiration to me
to be more
Courageous,
Thankful,
Happy and Fun
AT ALL TIMES!

Her work is remarkable
and I couldn't think of a better
way to spend my day,
than to Join in this Wonderful Hop
to honor her sacrifices!
I Love You Jen!!!

Here is the Layout I created in honor
of Jennifer!!

The fabulous card stock is by Susan Weckesser
and she is AMAZING Mixed Media Artist.
You can find her wonderful work
and her products by going to
http://www.susiebeestudios.com/welcome
The background card stock is from Susiebee Studios - Live In Color Collection
called Beautiful Daydreams
and the Photo Mat is called Live, Love Create .

The clouds, flower, kite, and sun (behind the digi image sun)
were the design paper alone!
I can't take the credit so I thought I would share that! :O)

I just received the papers this past weekend.
When I started coloring the fabulous fairy and sun images,
I just KNEW they went together so well.
Both the card stock and the images themselves,
were the entire inspiration
for my finished layout.

I started by cutting a photo mat from another paper
in the Susan W. Collection.
I wanted my Mistletoe 3 Girl JAM Crinkle Ribbon
to mimic the grass and flower stems in the bottom of the
background, so I used a wooden
skewer to keep the loops even as I applied
them to the back of the photo mat.

I colored the darling fairy using my Whisper Strokes Watercolor Markers.
I wanted to give her a magical color combination
that matched the background.  I loved
the periwinkle hair when I finished.
I added some Stardust Stickles to her wings for sparkle.
I gave her some dimension off the page
by adhering her with 3D foam squares.

I used the same markers for the sun and added
a bit of orange glitter glue to his cheeks.
Again, I used 3D foam squares
to raise him above the existing sun on the paper.

The sentiment is part of the Jen's Sunshine Digi Stamp set
available HERE from Paper Makeup Stamps
and I simple cut each word and inked the edges with an aqua ink pad.

For the layered sentiment, I used pink ink around the edges
after I cut both the sentiment tag and background tag
from my Spellbinders Labels dies.

I hope you enjoyed my project.

School Days - using Authentique, Want2Scrap, and Unity Itty Bitty

Happy Monday Blends!

If you missed the earlier

about a dear Blend,

*******************

I had a fun weekend that was quite relaxing
and enjoyable.
On Saturday, my SFF (Sweet Friend Forever), Heather Lynn
and I, both got to visit
Erica and her mom, Jackie
for some fun Crafty Time.

I started a layout that I have been eager to get done.
When I first peeked at
I couldn't wait to get out
my fabulous Glory Papers and Authentique stamps by Unity
and get started.

Here is the Sketch

and
here is my finished layout
All the papers are from the Authentique Glory Collection
with the exception of the Navy card stock and Red card stock.
The background paper is "Allegiance" and the patterned papers are "United".
The Red card stock is by American Crafts (Damask).

Here is a close up to show the fun
Authentique Happy Day Itty Bitty stamp by Unity Stamp Co.
inked with Tim Holtz - Barn Door.

I will be entering this layout into the

The border at the top of the page
is a sticker from the same Glory Collection kit.

The title stamp school days
was inked using ColorBox-Merlot.
The weekdays on the banner were
inked using Color Box-Dune.
The report card journaling spot
was inked using Color Box-Brown.
All three stamps are from the Simple Stories set by Unity
called smarty pants.

The rosettes were created by cutting the coordinating card stock
into 3 strips into 1" X 12" strips then scoring
them every 1/4".
The button centers were chosen from my stash.
I did adhere each rosette down onto a 2" inch punched circle.

This fabulous bling above is a wonderful prize I won
from the sweet Barbara Ohanlon in the
fun Scrapbook Deals group on Facebook.

The bling is by Want2Scrap
and is called Funky Swirles - Silver Rhinestones
Visit their fun blog http://want2scrapco.blogspot.com/ to be inspired

The rustic stars were purchased at my LSS and I grabbed up on
a few while shopping.  They really add a nice detail to the already fantastic
Authentique Papers.

Scrapbook Friday ~ "Dream Big"

Scrapbook Friday - August 3, 2012 - Sketch

Hello Crafty Blends.
I am so glad you are stopping by today.
I was so pleased
with the way my next layout turned out,
that I have been cringing to show it to you!
I hope you like it
as much as I do.

I started with this Sketch
from Erica at My Cricut Craft Room

I love when you can start with a fun
sketch and
your creativity FLOWS on from there
without any glitches.

Well . . . . to be completely honest,
there were a few
minor glitches . . .
I had a bit of a re-inker explosion
in the bathroom that left
my hands looking like I just got done
arm wrestling a Smurf.
* * * * *
Then there was the hidden finger daubers
under all of my other crafty supplies
that were almost impossible
to find
since my thumb and index finger
 were stuck together
from the Glitter Glue.
* * * * *
Oh, and I tried to take
a break an eat a yummy sandwich in between crafting.
Let me just say,
it is REALLY HARD to get Italian Dressing
out from in between
the home-row keys on your keyboard.
! ! ! ! ! LOL ! ! ! ! !

I am laughing, because I took it all in stride,
and didn't let it stop
me from
reaching the finish line.

And here is what I ended up With:

 (poor lighting today....sorry)

Base
Colorbok dp Earth Tones (green pattern)
Unity  Stamps from Apr & Jun 2012 KOMs for the butterfly and flower trios
stamped directly onto dp using Quick Quotes Green with Envy powder puff chalk ink

Here's The Story - 3 Girl JAM DT Day

Hello Crafty Blends
I hope you have stuck with
me through my irregular
absence
and are ready
to see my next
DT project for 3 Girl JAM!

I grabbed all of my
3 Girl JAM goodies
and couldn't decide
whether to use

So.....
I used THEM ALL on my layout!!!

I decided to do a fun Layout with a Boyish color scheme (blues and browns)
since I don't dabble too much
with masculine projects.
I have some very fun baby pictures of Lance Jr.
that I will have to hunt for
to put in this layout,
but at least the layout is ready whenever I do find them.

I started by adding the Sky Blue twine to my photo mats
so it could serve as Photo Corners
to hold the pics in place.

Then I pleated the adhesive Canvas Border below the mats
using a Core'dinations border strip as my backing.
After adhering this together, I used an EK success punch to create
the trimmed edge.

I inked the edges of my mats using a Studio G brown
to highlight the edges between the dp and the brown cs.

I used several stamps from my new
Ippity by Unity set
I received from the sweet Heather Flaherty!
called Life's Little Moments.

For the round date and journaling stamp, I inked it using TH
Vintage Photo, then adhered it to another piece of cs for support.
I then looped my Baby Boy Blue Crinkle Ribbon
and glued it using Tacky Glue to the back.  I added a 3rd circle
piece of card stock after this.

I used the same TH ink for the journaling box in the upper left corner, but
stamped the sentiment, "Here's the Story"
using Versa Magik - Sea Breeze.
The blue rectangle Labels are by Pebbles Inc.
The corsage pin was made me moiee'
and the faux stitching around the borders were created
using a Whisper Strokes - Dual Tip Watercolor Marker

Here is the full view of the completed Layout!
